Silky Rescue Australia

Caramel's Page

This little guy isn't a typical SilkyRescue dog - but he was in need. Surrendered to the pound, with his partner Nilla and their pup Bear. Everyone got out just in time, and Caramel went into foster care.
He suffered from kennel cough but we believe this may have disguised his real health problem, something that had been brewing for a while.

Within a week or so he began to slow down, lost his sparkle and showed signs of discomfort.
His vet was baffled but found a sinister lump in his neck.

So with Caramel taking a sudden turn for the worst we had no choice, he was taken immediately to the Emergency Hospital and admitted for tests.
We knew it would be expensive, but what else could we do? Caramel is so young, so good natured and has his whole life ahead of him.

Test followed test, the specialists found the lump in his neck was in fact a huge abscess, poisoning his whole body. Origin still unknown.

The procedure was complex but with ultrasound assistance the specialists found the centre, drained the large amount of pus, cleaned the wound, inserted a drain and stapled him back together. Literally saving his life.
Our poor boy was so sore.

He couldn't eat or drink and although released from the hospital, he went in daily for a drip to keep his fluids up.

The accumulated bill has been a crippling setback that is going to affect how many dogs we can help in 2010.

Special thanks to Caramel's guardian angels
Judy, Denise, Anna, Alison, Elisabeth, Catherine and Rebecca
with love from Silky Rescue and the dogs in care.
